Dawn Bailey won the Business Award at Wyong Shire Council’s Australia Day Awards. Dawn received the Australia Day Award for her extensive voluntary work in the Toukley business community.

Dawn is a Life Member of the Northern Lakes Regional Business Chamber (Toukley & District Chamber of Commerce).

Dawn joined the Chamber in 1987 and immediately volunteered to take on the position of Treasurer on the committee and was always an active member of the Chamber.

In 1989 she initiated the Main St committee as a sub-committee of the Chamber with its focus being to improve the streetscape of Main St Toukley for the benefit of local businesses as well as improving available parking and traffic management.

The Main St found support through the State Government’s Main Street Program for Regional Communities. It was through this program that Greater Toukley Vision Inc(GTV) was formed in 1997.

 Dawn was a founding board member of GTV and remains the Treasurer of the organisation. GTV is responsible for the marketing and promotion of the Greater Toukley area on behalf of the local business community.

Dawn dedicates countless volunteer hours to ensure the smooth operation of GTV and its events – such as Food & Fun, Australia Day Eve Celebration and Lighting of the Christmas tree.

The time dedicated to GTV is on top of the time and energy she needs to ensure that her own accountancy practice, Tax Solutions, located in Toukley continues to thrive.

In her voluntary positions Dawn has held with the Chamber and GTV she has always put the interests of the Toukley Business Community ahead of her own.

 We would like to Congratulate her on winning this Award.

The Chamber office will be closed from Friday 24th December to 24th January.

However, Maree will be popping in and out of the office to check on things.

The Sunday Markets will be close Christmas Day and New Years Day.

Business Development & Information Night – 14th June

Last meeting we had two guest presenters; Senior Constable Murray Alcock – Crime Prevention Officer -Tuggerah Lakes Police and Michael O'Brian from Chapman's Chartered Accountants.

Senior Constable Murray Alcock talked to local business owners about Stealing's and how they can help prevent this by having

security measures such as CCTV in place and the layout of their stores.

Michael gave a brief on the budget and how this effects small businesses in the future.

We would like to thank everyone who attended the Business Development and Information Night.

Your attendance and input was what made the night such a success.

We hope to see you all at our next meeting on the 12th July 2011.

With this grant we are able to help local groups in providing free chemicals to assist in the rapid removal of graffiti.

The NLRBC has undertaken a pilot project for a Community Graffiti Trailer – "Graffiti Beater" to be used as a resource tool for local community groups, residence and businesses to use to remove graffiti within Wyong Shire.

The NLRBC recognises the importance of developing and maintaining community partnerships to assist in the effort to reduce graffiti in our area and the Northern Wyong Graffiti Forum has formed to provide a platform to develop strategies, and share ideas and knowledge. This group meets monthly at San Remo Neighbourhood Centre – San Remo. For information on the forums contact Jillian Hogan on 43907888.
